This is a large independent gite with gardens, ideal for those looking for outdoor activities and adventure for both adults and children. Apart from a wide range of local sports, the house comes with a large games room, including a full size pool table and an option to hire mountain bikes to explore the local mountain trails.
The house is situated in a quiet village, surrounded by mountains, vineyards and fields of sunflowers. The area is full of historical and cultural interest being at the heart of the Cathar region with its magnificent castles. White water rafting, canyoning, kayaking, cycling, caving, horse riding, wild swimming, walking, mountain biking and skiing are just some of the popular activities available locally.
There are 2 swimming lakes just 15 minutes drive away from the house. The lake in Puivert has a sandy beach, small bar and restaurant. There are also opportunities for wild swimming in high mountain lakes and rivers. The nearest shops and restaurants are just 5 minutes away.

Games room contains a new full size slate bed pool table; a full size table tennis table; a football table; a darts board in a cabinet; a stereo with an amp and speakers. A lead provided to enable music to be played from personal media. There is also a WC/shower room downstairs, a second fridge and a laundry room.
Towels and linen are included in the price. The property and linen is cleaned weekly.
Washing Machine, Dryer, second fridge/freezer, Clothes Horse, Picnic Basket, Barbecue equipment and cool boxes.
La Maison Blanche is a large, light, airy, house providing independent living for family and friends to share, sleeping 8 people comfortably. It is situated in a quiet, traffic free no through road; one of the oldest roads in the Aude department. The accommodation is all on the top floor. The ground floor contains a 40 m2 newly equipped games room and a utility room. Mountain bikes are available for hire.
The rooms are clean and spacious. The 4 bedrooms are well equipped with 2 king size beds,a double bed and a set of bunk beds; all with good quality mattresses.
The kitchen is also well equipped, large and modern with large french windows looking out towards the village and mountains.
The lounge has a wood burner, 2 sofas, an armchair, a desk, television, DVD player and free WIFI.
Smoking is not allowed in the house. Please contact the owner directly with regards to the possibility of pets being welcomed.
There are gardens with terraces to the front and rear of the property. The front garden and terrace faces on to a quiet, no through road, apparently one of the oldest in the region. The centre of the village is at the end of this road, where there is a good restaurant in walking distance. The street is traffic free allowing quiet and privacy to relax. There are garden chairs, tables, sun loungers, and a barbecue available. A lovely pergola provides shade on the front terrace and is decorated with coloured lights for relaxing outside in the evenings. Both gardens have views of the mountains and village.
The large back garden can be accessed from the main road and can provide off street parking. There are double gates protecting it from the road which is also relatively quiet.
There is always a sunny place to sit outside when the sun is shining or enjoy a meal al fresco in the evening with a glass of wine while the children are entertaining themselves in the games room.
Please contact the owner directly to negotiate alternative minimum stays during the off peak periods of November through to the end of February.

Bookings are accepted for a minimum of 3 nights during off peak season’. Changeover day is flexible. Check in time is after 4pm. Checkout is before 10am but can be extended during quiet periods.
Payments are accepted by bank transfer or cheque and can be paid in Sterling or Euros. 25% deposit is required on booking and the full cost must be paid before 8 weeks, prior to rental. Late bookings, made less that 8 weeks prior to rental, must be paid in full. A damage deposit of £200 is also to be paid alongside the full cost in advance. This will be refunded within 2 weeks of departure from the property.

There is also a swimming lake with a small beach, bar and restaurant nearby in Puivert, just 10 minutes drive away.
The nearest restaurant is the Auberge in the village itself and the nearest bar is in Fa just a few minutes down the road. Both are lively friendly places providing excellent food. The nearest shops, banks, markets, restaurants, outside the one in the village, and other amenities are in Esperaza, just 5 minutes' drive away. The nearest large supermarket is in Couiza, just a 10 minute drive away.
The Gorges de l'Aude is an area just 7km/ 4 miles away; it's a good starting point for viewing the Cathar castles such as Montsegur and Puilaurens, as well as some of the magnificent ravines and gorges in the area such as the Gorge de Galamus and Gorge St Georges. These are also great places for Canyoning, White water rafting, Kayaking, Caving and other outdoor activities.
There are lots of beautiful medieval villages such as Alet les bains, Rennes les bains and Rennes le chateau, less than 14km/8 miles away. Rennes le chateau is a mountain top village with magnificent views. It is famous for its links with holy grail conspiracy theories. There is a museum and guided tours of the church of Mary Magdalene and the house and gardens of the 19th century priest Berenger Sauniere who supposedly discovered the secret behind the Holy Grail mystery.
Nearby Rennes les bains is beautiful village built along the edge of the river sals which is naturally salty. There is a spa complex of hot and cold water springs and an outdoor swimming pool that has a natural temperature of 33c, providing lots of health benefits.
Alet les bains also has a spa centre, originally Roman, and a swimming pool, open to the public in the summer. The village itself is partially fortified and is made up of arcade buildings and timber framed houses.
Limoux is a town surrounded by vineyards and is famous for its blanquette, a sparkling wine discovered by the benedictine monks of the abbey of St Hilaire in 1531. It is believed that Dom Perignon 'stole' the process to produce champagne.
